Collection: Chromatic Accordions
Explore our collection of chromatic accordions, including button accordions suited to expressive, versatile and technically advanced playing.
Chromatic accordions use a button keyboard system that allows the same note to be played on both push and pull of the bellows. This gives players a smooth, consistent layout across all keys and makes the instrument especially powerful for classical, jazz, French musette, continental and modern accordion repertoire.
Unlike diatonic melodeons, which are closely connected to specific keys and traditional dance music styles, chromatic accordions are designed for wider musical range and full chromatic flexibility. They are often chosen by players who want compact keyboard movement, advanced fingering possibilities and strong control across demanding musical passages.
There are two commonly used chromatic button accordion layouts: C System and B System. One is not better than the other - they are simply different systems, and most players usually specialise in one layout.
Chromatic button accordions are especially popular in continental Europe and are widely used in classical, jazz, musette and virtuosic solo performance traditions.
